Register a device for Wired Networking
Marquette University is in the process of rolling out 802.1x wired network security. This means that devices on the wired network will need to authenticate to gain access - similar to how the MU Secure wireless network works.
Look at the lists below to determine if you need to register any devices.
Wired Network Devices Now Ready to Authenticate without Needing Registration (No further action needed)
- Windows computers managed by COE Tech (they have a tag #)
- Poly desk phones
- Paper-based printers
- Audio/Video presentation equipment in classrooms/labs (Crestron systems, projectors, video cameras)
- Apple Mac computers should automatically connect, but some may require additional configuration
- Devices physically running in COE Tech server room & university data center
Wired Network Devices Needing Registration (Please register these devices ASAP)
- Servers (especially those running services without being logged on)
- Linux computers
- Network attached storage (NAS) devices
- Lab equipment such as 3D printers, network-cameras, robots, medical devices, Smart appliances
- IoT/embedded systems (such as Arduino boards, sensors, motor controllers, etc)
Register wired devices at https://forms.office.com/r/bxPnLSebwM. Research assistants may also complete the online form on behalf of faculty in labs. The form needs to be completed for each wired network device that is not ready to authenticate using 802.1x authentication or they will won’t be able to connect to the campus network. No changes are being made to the campus wireless network.
